Shrewsbury 4ths v Allscott Cricket Club 3rd Eleven on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 14:00
Allscott Cricket Club Lost by 21 runs
Match report
This week Allscott 3rd XI travelled to fellow strugglers Shrewsbury 4th XI at SCAT, Shrewsbury. The recent poor weather resulted in a poor soft and damp track, which deteriorated even more with mid match rain. Allscott won the toss and asked Shrewsbury to bat first in the hope of chasing down the total set, a decision they were to rue as the weather worsened. The wicket offered inconsistent bounce with batting proving difficult for both teams. Shrewsbury lost wickets regularly throughout the innings with the only resistence offered by Richard Scragg, eventually dismissed by Les Pritchard for 30. Scragg proved one of Pritchard's five wickets during an excellent spell with Rob Beckett accounting for another three, and youngster Ryan Berry taking the remaining two wickets to dismiss Shrewsbury for 77 after 23 overs.
What appeared to be a regulation run chase proved the opposite with both Allscott openers dismissed early, on what was becoming a wet track, two other quick wickets followed to leave Allscott four wickets down before tea. Fortunes never improved after the break with five of the youngsters and middle order dismissed without scoring. Allscott were reeling with the combination of the batting surface and the extra pace of the opening Shrewsbury attack wreaking havoc. The only resistence proved to be Kev Davey (10) and Rob Beckett (13 not out). The final wicket fell with Allscott still 21 runs short of the total, bowled out for 56 after 21.2 overs. Congratulations to Shrewsbury's Richard Scragg, who took five wickets during a lively spell, Doug Reynolds, returning from injury, took four wickets, and youngster Peter Dean, who took the final wicket to give Shrewsbury victory.
