Allscott Cricket Club 3rd Eleven v Oswestry 4ths on Sat 17 Jul 2010 at 14:00
Allscott Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Allscott 3 XI v Oswestry IV - Bowring Park, Wellington.
This week Allscott 3rd XI welcomed fellow strugglers Oswestry 4th XI to The Bowring Park, Wellington. Despite the weeks rain the track held up well to offer a reliable surface to the batsman and some movement for the spinners, in particular. Allscott won the toss and asked Oswestry to bat first in the hope of chasing down the total set. Oswestry got off to a solid start with openers Andrew Clarke (33) and James Bradbury (22) enjoying a 70 run first wicket stand. However, when Rob Beckett trapped Clarke lbw, wickets began to fall at regular intervals throughout the session. Les Pritchard and Ian Davy bowled excellent spells to take three wickets a piece, and youngster Ryan Hoofe weighed in with two wickets for 4 runs in a 3.4 over spell. The other wicket came as a result of a run-out following a batting mix-up leaving Oswestry bowled out for 138 after 34.4 overs.
A change in the Allscott batting line-up saw Stu Berry (55) partnered by youngster Kieran Berry (17) to open the innings, in what was prove the second highest opening stand of the season. The run chase started quickly with regular boundaries pushing the run-rate up to five an over with the first wicket falling on 78. Following the initial break-through a number of quick wickets followed, steadied in the middle order by Ian Davy (15 not out). Davy batted well to take the tail end towards the required total and win the match for the Allscott boys. Sandwiched in between Davy's efforts were important contributions by Neil Lewis (12) and Shane Hoofe (14), who continued to show improvements with the bat. Allscott reached the required total to win by two wickets inside 34.2 overs and move further away from their rivals in the league table.
Well done lads in what proved to be a real team effort, with contributions throughout the team!
