Match report
Lilleshall 3 XI v Allscott 3 XI - Edgmond.
This week Allscott 3rd XI made the short trip to Edgmond for a difficult fixture against table topping Lilleshall. Lilleshall won the toss and opted to bat, which appeared to be a decision centred around attempting to secure maximum points. Lilleshall started well with David Wright and Pete Maltby building a steady partnership, eventually broken by Les Pritchard, who bowled Maltby (41). Shortly afterwards followed the introduction of Ian Davy to the attack, a decision which was to change the course of the match! Davy took six wickets for 35 from 12 overs and was unlucky not to claim a hat-trick with three wickets in four balls. He accounted for opener Wright (36) caught behind by Ian Watson and bowled a good aggressive spell to haul Allscott back into the match. Lilleshall posted a score of 146 for 7 from 40 overs leaving Allscott to consider a possible victory.
The run chase began well with Allscott opener Stu Berry hitting a number of early boundaries as the total required began to fall. However, a number of quick wickets and a good spell of Lilleshall bowling from Maltby and Richard Todd put the brakes momentarily on the chase and put Lilleshall in charge. Stu Berry (42) was eventually dismissed attempting to pull a short delivery into the onside, leaving Ian Watson to close out the match. Watson batted well to score 27, unluckily dismissed with the last ball of the innings to see Allscott home for a well earned draw finishing on 119-8. Another great team performance, which ensured Allscott have only lost once in the last four matches!
