Allscott Cricket Club 3rd Eleven v Ellesmere 2nds on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 14:00
Allscott Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets
Match report
Allscott 3 XI v Ellesmere 2 XI - Bowring Ground, Wellington.
This week Allscott 3rd XI welcomed Ellesmere 2nd XI to the Bowring Ground for their league fixture. Allscott won the toss and invited Ellesmere to bat. Ellesmere struggled to cope with the batting conditions on a track which was dry on top but damp below leading to a slow, low bouncing wicket. The conditions were suited to bowling and Allscott took full advantage to take early wickets with Rob Beckett continuing his good spell with the ball to remove Ellesmere young opener Richard Scott (4), neatly stumped by Tim Clare. Youngster Ryan Hoofe accounted for top Ellesmere batsman, Jason Wirdnam, excellently caught by Les Pritchard for a quickfire 34, just as he was looking dangerous. Beckett and Hoofe both finished with 4 wickets a piece and figures of 12-4-26-4 and 4.2-16-4 respectively. Captain Les Pritchard and Mohammed Butt weighed in with the other wickets as Ellesmere were reduced to 80 all out inside 27.2 overs. That ended a great team fielding performance, despite Allscott having to cope with only ten fielders until the 23rd over, by which time they were bowling at the Ellesmere tail end.
The regular Allscott opening partnership had been disprupted by injury leading to regular Stu Berry being partnered in the run chase by Tim Clare. They both made light work of the conditions to complete the run chase to finish 84 for 0 in 19.3 overs. Berry finished 33 not out and Clare won the match with an excellently driven boundary to finish 35 not out to start the Allscott celebtrations.
Another great performance in the field lads and a thoroughly deserved first win!
