Match report
Whitchurch IV v Allscott 3 XI - Sir John Talbot Sports Centre, Whitchurch.
This week Allscott 3rd XI travelled to Whitchurch for their league fixture, with weather conditions perfect. Allscott won the toss and invited Whitchurch to bat, who took full advantage scoring quickly in the first half of the match and beginning to an to build an apparently unasailable total. Rob Beckett took a couple of wickets and weighed in with a catch before Allscott took the opportunity to use a number of youngsters in the bowling line-up. Ryan Hoofe subsequently accounted for top scorer Shaun Reynolds, brilliantly stumped by Ian Watson for 106. Grant Brookes bowled well once more, along with Josh Porter, who both took two wickets a piece. Whitchurch eventually finished on 290 - 9 from 40 overs. Congratulations to Whitchurch's 'spinner' Reynolds (106), who proved he could bat as well as bowl and and Jack Hart (50).
Captain, Les Pritchard returned to the fold following his absence the previous week and marshalled the youngsters well, giving them all their opportunity with the ball. The youngsters stuck to their task in the field well in the face of an unexpected show of Whitchurch batting power, which belied their lowly league position. Fielding proved difficult on an uneven outfield and the team worked hard to keep the scores as low as possible.
The run chase never really got started with Stu Berry (20), Ryan Hoofe (14) and fellow youngster Kieran Berry, who batted 15 overs for his six runs, the only batsmen to show any real resistence to the lively Whitchurch attack.
Despite the result there were a number of positives for the club with youngsters showing improvement in both their bowling and batting performances
