Match report
Allscott 3 XI v Madeley 3 XI - Bowring Park, Wellington.
This week Allscott 3rd XI welcomed Madeley 3rd XI to The Bowring Park, Wellington. Weather conditions were much improved on recent weeks with a hard dry track lending itself well to batting. Madeley won the toss and asked Allscott to bat first. Allscott got off to a good solid start against a lively Madeley opening attack. Openers Stuart Berry and Neil Lewis put on a partnership of 105 before the first wicket fell, Lewis (24) caught trying to pull into the onside. Following the first wicket others began to fall at regular intervals with Berry eventually caught close the the leg side boundary for 81. That brought youngster Grant Brookes to the crease, who looked extremely comfortable straight driving two boundaries in quick succession to finish 8 not out in good time. Allscott finished with a competitive score of 159 for 5 from their forty overs and prepared for the defence.
Captain Les Pritchard and youngster Ryan Hoofe opened the bowling, both bowling well and taking early wickets to reduce Madeley to 17 for 3 with Allscott's elusive first victory within touching distance. Pritchard and Hoofe proved the pick of the bowlers returning figures of 15 - 2 - 57 - 3 (Pritchard) and 5 - 1 - 12 - 1 (Hoofe). However, two steady middle-order partnerships saw Madeley home with 8.1 overs to spare. Congratulations to unlucky Madeley batsmen Shaun Welch (49 n.o) and Steven Jackson (46 n.o) who narrowly missed out on half centuries with overs running out.
